"The Road' by, Cormac McCarthy, has a post apocalyptic scenery, which reveals the true nature of humans when faced in dire situations.
The story holds no names for the two main characters and the exact location is unclear, although this does not affect the plot of the story in any way at all. The scene of the story is a very harsh and cruel one, even though some would already say the world was cruel before this apocalypse. The scenery may be the different but still humans where not changed their horrible nature still remained in them the only difference is that in this era it was probably reasonable to act how they would normally act. The rule of only the strong live was still in play and this time it was much more brutal as the son in the story was forced to see the kind of people humans really are as he would say "They're going to kill those people aren't they?'. The way the story is told is a mean to unveil what humans are capable of doing in desperate times either it is doing things they have never done or  doing the same things they are use to in order to survive. In example people in our modern society are not very resourceful and are not aware of the privilege they have of all the abundance of resource and their disposal. During this kind of event people who were wasteful are probably now going to be more resourceful and use everything they have in an orderly fashion. In example the two characters were probably not use to this lifestyle and are now only using "things they would need" for the time of day and save their resources for later. Not only where they trying to keep from running out of food but now they had new enemies, which were the rest of the people who were alive as conflict could start at any given moment this is the reason they waited for the scene to clear and approach their hidden cart and "pulled away the tarp" that was hiding their resources. This novel is a great example of how people can not necessarily change but expose who they really are all just because a change of scenery so that friendly neighbor may be the most disgusting human on the planet if he had to.
